Pool Calcium Hardness Calculator

Calculate the exact amount of calcium chloride to raise your pool's calcium hardness and prevent corrosion or scaling.

Calcium Hardness Calculator

Prevent corrosion and scaling with proper calcium levels

Low

General Range: 200 - 400 ppm

Low calcium causes water to become aggressive and corrode surfaces and equipment. High calcium causes scaling on surfaces and in pipes.

Pool Volume

20,000 gallons

Recommended range for Plaster/Gunite: 250-350 ppm

Amount to Add

27 lbs

Calcium Chloride Flakes (77%)

432 oz
Large increase - add in multiple doses

Tips

Pre-dissolve, add slowly

Pre-dissolve in bucket of pool water before adding

About Calcium Hardness

Calcium hardness measures the amount of dissolved calcium in your pool water. Proper levels protect your pool surfaces and equipment. The ideal range is 200-400 ppm, varying by pool surface type.

Ideal Ranges by Surface

Plaster/Gunite: 250-350 ppm (higher is better)
Vinyl Liner: 150-250 ppm
Fiberglass: 200-400 ppm

Problems from Imbalance

Low calcium: Water becomes "aggressive" and extracts calcium from plaster, grout, and equipment.
High calcium: Scale deposits on surfaces, pipes, and equipment; cloudy water.
