About Pool pH

pH measures how acidic or basic your pool water is on a scale of 0-14. The ideal range for pools is 7.4-7.6, which matches the pH of human eyes and mucous membranes for comfortable swimming.

Why pH Matters

Low pH (below 7.2): Corrosive to equipment, etches plaster, irritates skin and eyes.
High pH (above 7.8): Reduces chlorine effectiveness, causes cloudy water, scale formation.

pH Adjustment Products

To lower pH: Muriatic acid (most effective) or dry acid (sodium bisulfate, safer to handle).
To raise pH: Soda ash (sodium carbonate) or borax (minimal effect on alkalinity).
